Justified Use Of Arms, Here’s Some Statistics

second amendment

The right to bear arms is protected by the constitution under the second amendment and as is known to be a basic civil right so I thought of taking the discussion to the next level and view current situation with regards to gun use.

UCLA professor emeritus James Q. Wilson, a respected expert on crime, police practices and guns, says, “We know from Census Bureau surveys that something beyond a hundred thousand uses of guns for self-defense occur every year. We know from smaller surveys of a commercial nature that the number may be as high as 2-and-a-half or 3 million. We don’t know what the right number is, but whatever the right number is, it’s not a trivial number.”

The same article gives the statistics that in 200312,548 people died through non-suicide gun violence, including homicides, accidents and cases of undetermined intent.

Can we count the use of guns vs. the use of guns for purposes of crime and aggression? Probably not as many cases as is obvious from the numbers don’t end up in shooting and actually this is part of the purpose.

In any case all attempts to restrict the right to bear arms are going to meet severe opposition as is evident from the case of Montana that even defined it as part of the grounds on which it joined the union . Check here for more on this issue

Cleaning And Lubricating

Since cleaning and lubricating your gun is both important and time consuming
I was really happy to see what Damsel wrote

Recently, we started using a popular product called Strike Hold, a cleaner, lubricant and protectant (CLP) for metallic items, weapons in particular. Since we have been using it, cleaning the firearms after a session at the range is quicker and easier.
Looks like this will make life easier and more pleasant.

Uses Of Revolvers In Todays World

Clint Smith wrote in the guns magazine about the changes in the uses and popularity of revolvers.
In an age of high-tech semi-auto pistols, the sixgun still holds its own as a weapon for personal protection and home defense. Today’s world of defensive handguns, with its focus on high-tech hardware and cutting-edge focus seems to include no place for the revolver, which some younger shooters regard almost as an antique. Since the 1980s, the inroads made by semi-automatic pistols into the world of handguns have overshadowed a domain that not long ago was exclusive to revolvers. How quickly expectations change.
I know that most old timers in law enforcement still favors the revolver over the semi automatic guns, and as is the case with this rober there are still those that use the revolver as their main tool, but most people interested in revolvers have an affection to it for various reasons. Here is a comparison between the revolver and the semi automatic, of course the question still remains what are the uses of your revolver.
